Gimmelwald and Berner-Oberland Beauty! part 1

After a nice stop in Bougy-Villars, we made our way into the Alps. Just east of the Lake Geneva region is known as the Berner-Oberland. We made our way to the Jungfrau region, where we planned to have the genuine Swiss Alpine experience! About 7 years ago, I had come to a little mountain town called Gimmelwald with my two friends, Rachel and Brooke. It was one of our favorite stops during our Europe backpacking adventure. It was fun to come back with my hubby and the Johnsons! We drove through Interlocken, made our way to Lauterbrunen (which had some killer scenery and waterfalls!), and then proceeded to take a gondola up the mountain to Gimmelwald!

 We all decide to take a little walk through the town. Gimmelwald is pretty small--only about 150 people live there. It was raining outside, but we loved walking along the little winding roads, staring at the cows, and walking in and out of self-serve alpine huts selling fresh cheese, and breathing in the mountain air!

Okay, this was probably the coolest part! We were following a family of three on this small trail. The dad of the family opened a pasture gate, made a noise, and all of the sudden, all of the cows on the hillside started making their way to the gate! All we could hear was the clamoring of cowbells! They proceeded to follow him single file on the road above, and made their way to the barn up the way! Yeah, way cool! The mom and son were in charge of rounding up the few cows who wanted to go up another road. Nothin like stubborn cows;) It was pretty awesome!

We loved walking around Gimmelwald! We were all feeling pretty hungry, so we went back to the hostel, ordered some pizza and fondue, and played Mexican Train. The cool thing about most hostels, is that it is a pretty social environment and it is easy to round others together and play games. We had four others join us during our game, which was fun!

Despite some snoring from the other guests and some restlessness on our end, first night was okay. Gotta love hostels!
