Murten and Fete de Geneve

Fete de Geneve!!!!!!! Canton Holiday celebrating Geneva basically.  Probably not the most patriotic residents, because Andy and I decided to drive 2 hours out of Geneva. Destination: Murten aka "Morat" (German and French names). It is in a bilingual canton, so depending on who you are talking to, he or she will call the town one or the other. 

We didn't know much about this place before going, only that it was on a lovely lake. We decided to chance it and spend our Saturday afternoon exploring the town.

LOVED! If you are looking for a town with the ultimate Swiss charm, this is the place. It is not your mountain chalet part of Switzerland, which is also stunning. But you feel like you have stepped into a Pinnochio-like storybook. So Fun!

Lake Murten

We decided to hop on a boat and go around the lake. Way fun. Our half-fare transportation cards have definitely been worth it:)

After our boat ride, we walked the ramparts of the city. This was a lot of fun! It was cool to see all the rooftops and alleyways from above.

There was some kind of festival going on! Lots of music, food, and different vendors.

After our great day trip, we headed back home to celebrate Fete de Geneve!!!!!!!! For all the pyros out there, Geneva puts on the largest fireworks show in all of Europe! The fireworks show lasts for a whole hour, and are launched from over 40 launching points on the lake. A theme is chosen every year, and the fireworks are choreographed to music suiting the theme. These folks aren't messin around!
Our friend Stephanie, a Geneva Native, met us at our apartment and we walked down to all the chaos. SO MANY PEOPLE!!!!! Apparently, people come long distances to see this thing! We fought our way through the crowds, bought ourselves some bratwursts from one of the countless food vendors selling their specialties, and then ventured out to find a good spot to watch the fireworks.

Steph found us a spot not far from the Jet d'Eau. There were tons of people, so we dropped our blanket on a tiny spot, and camped out for about an hour until the show started. We had to stand for the whole show, but we didn't seem to notice our tired legs. The show was that spectacular! It was beautiful! We have never seen fireworks like these! They were perfectly synced to the music and totally blew our minds! Towards the finale, they turned on the Jet d'Eau, which was awesome! They were so big and so loud that you could feel your heart pounding! Amazing show!
