Mudding, Sanding, Moldings, and Window Casings

Right? Kind of a mouthful. But we are getting to the point where a lot of the gut work is wrapping up and we are getting closer to prettiful things. 
Mudding and Sanding. We were about to take this on ourselves, but 99.9% of the people (very handy people mind you)tried to talk us out of doing mudding and sanding by ourselves. Not only did we have new sheetrock to finish, but we had a ton of cracks in the plaster, and we had gashed the ceiling in the 2nd bedroom quite a bit in attempts to chisel off the ceiling tile adhesive. So, thanks to Drew Menlove, had Francisco and Alex come mud and sand. And aren't we grateful we did. With us both working, Andy especially, this would have been a nightmare. Francisco and Alex made everything look awesome! Who would have thought those walls and ceiling could get that smooth.

 All I know is, I was in the house for an hour making measurements while Francisco and Alex were finishing up, and i could hardly breath WITH a face mask on. Major props to our Mexican friends!!!

Next step....moldings. Our friend, Bill Daly, took me to the lumberyard to pick out moldings. Bill is a contractor, so he definitely knows the ropes to the lumberyard. The lumberyard is an interesting place. It seemed like all the taller people were working inside, and these very short Filipinos were the ones hauling all the lumber outside! Pretty awesome!

All of Friday evening and all day Saturday we worked on window casings. We borrowed Uncle Jon's table saw and used our miter saw and were able to get all the windows framed up. We came home dead tired and spoiled ourselves with some Lone Star fish tacos and a few episodes of the Wonder Years on Netflix. We like the Wonder Years these days;)
Next step......case moldings. These weren't too bad! I was Andy's assistant and we tacked up the moldings around the windows. They make a huge difference. (Although we are beginning to understand the hiccups that come along with plaster walls....nothing is square:~{

 That brings us up to date. Sorry about the lengthy posts, I'm just trying to make up for my procrastination over the past 5 months. But we are really excited about the progress! This weekend, we will finish the window moldings and then prep for paint. Stay tuned :)
