I have heard a lot about the German and Swiss Christmas Markets. They are a must-see here. We were excited to be invited to go to the Coppet Christmas Market with our new friends Jay and Jenna Young and their cute girls!
First off, this family is awesome! Jay and Jenna are from Australia, and have been living in Geneva for the past few months working at the Australian Embassy. They are hilarious and like to have a good time. Jenna has been a good friend to me and has been great to drive me to run errands that are awkward on public transit. Just great, genuine people!

This particular Christmas Market is in a Chateau in the center of the village. I felt like it was out of a storybook! In some of the foyers were booths selling crafts, jewelry, toys and other wares. In another wing were all of the Christmas decorations for sale--handmade ornaments, candles, blankets, wood-cuts and carvings. The smells were to die for! The smell of cinnamon, cloves and oranges just permeated the whole setting!
A highlight for us though was the food. They had booths set up in the Chateau's larder and meat cellars, with all of the old hooks and chains hanging from the ceilings. For sale (and sample!) were cheeses from the different regions, candied nuts, honeys and sauces, meats, and let's not forget.......Chocolate!

We had a great time! A fun, festive tradition! It was a great day with great friends!
